Between 2014 and 2019, Telia acquired 44 companies to a value of SEK 50 billion and divested 14 companies to a value of SEK 52 billion.
In September 2015, Telia said it would gradually divest its operations in Eurasia, which in 2014 accounted for some 20% of the group’s revenues. Currently, the only business in Eurasia that remains to be divested is in Moldova. “I am hopeful this will happen this year, but it is not a disaster if we retain Moldcell. It is a well-run company,” says Andreas Ekström, Telia’s head of mergers and acquisitions, who does not see the operator making any “transformational acquisitions” in the short-term.
Telia will instead focus on complementary acquisitions in telecom and IT, and on realising synergies in acquisitions it has already made.
