After the money laundering scandal at Swedbank, the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finansinspektionen, FI) is going to be completely reviewed. The authority’s competence, capacity, mandate and division of responsibility in relation to other authorities will be investigated, promises Financial Markets Minister Per Bolund (Green).
After the scandal in Swedbank, newly appointed CEO Jens Henriksson promised to be transparent to “the max” at a press conference last week. In the shadow of the Swedish-Baltic and American investigations, the market value of Swedbank has plunged by around one-third this year.
Per Bolund calls it alarming, but points out that money laundering has not always engaged political parties. The new inquiry will look at how well FI carries out its job and whether it needs assistance.
