The WTO gave the go-ahead this week for a major package of tariffs that the US is now threating to introduce in the EU after a long dispute in the aviation industry.
Swedish EU Commissioner Cecilia Malmström says, “We have spent the last six months talking to the Americans. We have said that you can actually hold back from punitive tariffs until further notices so that we can sit down and discuss how Airbus and Boeing do not receive these kinds of subsidies. Both have sinned.”
However, the attempts have not worked: “There are no talks. They do not want to talk.”
