Danish telecoms group TDC has abandoned plans to take over MTG’s Nordic business, instead backing a bid from a consortium consisting of Australia’s Macquarie and three Danish pension funds. The consortium has offered 50.25 Danish crowns per share for the group.
Sweden’s Telia Company confirmed on Monday that it had held talks with the TDC board last week regarding a potential takeover of the telecoms group. CEO Johan Dennelind told Dagens Industri (DI) on Monday evening that the talks had now ended but Telia intends to see if it can play an active role in consolidation in Denmark. “If it means we must exit Denmark then that will be an alternative, if we can create added value via new constellations we will willingly do so.”
Kinnevik, which has 20% of the capital and 48% of the votes in MTG, said on Monday that it was looking at other options.
