Telecom group Telia is keen to buy Bonnier Broadcasting, the parent company of TV 4, seeking to add TV content in a deal valued at some SEK 10-12 billion. The government, with a holding of some 37 per cent in Telia, is less keen, wanting the telecom group to raise dividends instead. The government has also expressed concerns that the Swedish state, which indirectly controls broadcaster SVT, could become a major shareholder in TV 4. A source tells Svenska Dagbladet that TV 4 could lose its broadcasting licence if the deal goes through.
