Pressure is mounting on the government to stop Telia’s acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting, which would put the operator in charge of brands that include TV4, C More and Finnish MTV.
The government, which has a 37 per cent stake in Telia, is critical of the proposed acquisition, but has said it is unable to stop the deal. The centre-right alliance parties have opposed the deal, the Left Party is sceptical and the Sweden Democrats have now also voiced their opposition to a purchase.
Elisabeth Svantesson, the Moderates’ economic policy spokesperson, tells the newspaer Dagens Industri that the government “must stop avoiding” the issue and has demanded talks with Enterprise Minister Mikael Damberg.
Olof Persson, the Moderates’ spokesperson on culture policy, said in Almedalen on Tuesday that the government will have to sell its stake in Telia, if the deal were to go through.
