During his State of the Union Address on Wednesday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said “It is absurd that European companies buy European planes in dollars instead of euros” and that he would unveil plans later this year to boost the euro’s role in financial markets. He also said the Economic and Monetary Union should deepen and proposed that taxation policy might gradually move away from unanimity voting to qualified majority voting.
Moderate MEP Christer Fjällner rejected the taxation proposal outright, while Centre Party MEP Fredrick Federley said: “From a Swedish point of view, this is unfeasible…”.
