Professor Jerker Delsing of Luleå Technical University is to coordinate a project, known as Arrowhead Tools, to create new standards for automation in industry. Eighteen European companies will take part in the initiative as well as a number of universities and companies, including Bosch, Philips, the Volvo group and Boliden. The project has a budget corresponding to SEK 1 billion.
If successful, development costs for new automation solutions could be reduced significantly. Test have already indicated that engineering costs can be cut by 60-85 per cent, according to the professor.
