International Airlines Group, the owner of British Airways and Iberia, has acquired a 4.6% stake in Norwegian and may bid for the airline. In Oslo, shares in Norwegian closed 47% higher after news of the potential takeover emerged. According to Bloomberg, an acquisition could value the carrier at around USD 3 billion, including debt.
Danska Sydbank chief analyst Jacob Pedersen says IAG’s interest in Norwegian is good news for SAS. If IAG does fly off with Norwegian, there will be less pressure on SAS, which would gain a “better position” on the Scandinavian market.
