The border controls between Denmark and Sweden have been in place for more than two years, notes the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry as it calls for a return to a normal functioning of the Schengen area. Open borders are of vital importance to entrepreneurship and growth, and a plan is now needed to enable a return to a normal internal market, it says.
Underling the impact of border controls, the Association reports that Germany’s Bertelsmann Foundation has estimated that Sweden’s losses could amount to EUR 50 billion, if the controls remain in place for 10 years
