Swedish retail sales are expected to increase by 2.5 per cent in 2018 and by 2.5 per cent in 2019, according to HUI Research’s new forecast for the economy. HUI Research states that the scope for consumption in the economy is still relatively intact although households have become more hesitant in recent months.
The question on everyone’s lips is what will happen when the American e-commerce giant Amazon takes a step into the Swedish market. “We believe that physical trade will lose out the most when Amazon lifts digitalisation to new levels, but Swedish e-commerce will also see competition increase when domestic store chains go online and foreign players focus on Sweden,” says Jonas Arnberg.
